We are thrilled to announce the launch of an ambitious new food forest right here on our 14-acre farm in Duncan, BC.
This spring, we brought together an amazing group of local businesses, permaculture designers, soil experts, and composting enthusiasts to kick off this project. At the core of our food forest is a partnership with up-and-coming permaculture designer Raine (Sierra) Robinson, whose TEDx talk, “Beyond sustainability: A call for regeneration,” inspired us all. Together, we’re combining composting systems with classic permaculture principles to create a thriving, biodiverse ecosystem that will serve as a living demonstration and classroom.
If you’re not familiar with food forestry (also called agroforestry), it’s a way to manage land and produce food by modeling the layers and diversity of a natural forest—except with edible trees, shrubs, and plants that people can actually harvest and use. Our goal is to show how composting and soil health are directly connected to food security and regenerative agriculture.
We’ve been blown away by the support from our community. Local businesses have jumped in to help, and a special shoutout goes to irrigation specialist Dan Rourke, who helped secure generous equipment and labour donations from Rain Bird to bring our irrigation system to life.
We can’t wait to welcome students, residents, and anyone curious about regenerative gardening to our farm. The food forest will be a space for learning, hands-on exploration, and seeing firsthand how compost and healthy soil can transform our environment and our community.
At Pacific Composting, our mission is to empower people to create composts that supports living soils. This food forest is a huge step forward, and it wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support we’ve received from people like you.
