This wasn’t a decision made lightly.
For nearly 3 years we loved supplying many Canadian vermicomposters with composting worms, which - combined with our associated educational efforts - is something we are very proud of!
We did things differently than many others - putting much more focus on the health and well-being of the worms. We used gentle harvesting methods, packed the worms in carefully-prepared living habitat mixes instead of sterile bedding, and we were obsessive about timing our shipments in a way that reduced the amount of stress placed on the worms as much as we possibly could.
But ultimately, we realized that this wasn’t an approach that was in-line with our company values and core philosophies.
We asked ourselves how we can still meet the needs of our customers - but in a more natural, sustainable way. The answer: worm composting starter cultures.
Instead of focusing on a stressed-out gob of worms, we will be providing customers with what they really need - an entire worm composting ecosystem.
Our initial offering comes in the form of “Living Material” (and Living Material Plus), but we have plans for a much more robust starter culture product, which should launch in fall 2026.
