It’s been a very productive, very busy, and very exciting handful of months on the PC-brand-product-launch front!
- Back in June we launched our Johnson-Su Compost.
- Last month we released our Lil’ Wiggler Lab Worm Composting Kit.
And this month, we’re launching not one, but TWO new products: our Biologically Complete Worm Castings and Compost Extract/Tea Bag!
PC Biologically Complete Worm Castings
We’ve produced a lot of castings over the years, and have even invested a lot of time, energy, and expense in testing them to make sure they meet or exceed our standards for biological diversity…but, funny enough, it wasn’t until fairly recently that we (finally) decided to add this amendment to our product roster.
Sometimes good things can’t be rushed! 😉
Our castings are crafted with care using a wide range of different earthworm foods and amendments to optimize the vermicomposting process and improve the quality of the end product.
We’re currently selling castings in 1 L and 2 L bags (but feel free to reach out to discuss potential bulk options).
Compost Extract/Tea Bag
Using compost to make liquid extracts has long been known as a great way to get a lot more ‘bang for your buck’ - especially when working with more potent materials like worm castings and Johnson-Su.
A key part of the process involves sieving the compost in water in order to separate a lot of the beneficial organisms and compounds from the bulky solids. DIY options do exist, but it’s very common to end up with a sieve that either screens out too much (e.g. old pillow case), or one that lets too much through (e.g. burlap sack).
We decided it was time to find a more effective option - but one that was still well-suited for the average home composter!
The journey began by looking for extract/tea bags already on the market. We did find some decent options, but we just couldn’t seem to find a product that checked off all the boxes for us.
So, we decided to design our own!
It was very important that our bag:
- Used 400 micron mesh to allow all the beneficial biology (and compounds) through, while blocking everything that isn’t needed.
- Had high-quality construction using durable materials - so it could be used over and over again, for years to come.
- Was compact enough to be both easy to work with and effective, but still big enough (9x16”) to accommodate enough material to make it worth the effort.
- Had a rounded bottom (a feature we couldn’t find in any other bag on the market) to greatly assist with the cleaning process.
We’re very excited with the product we ended up with, and even more excited to get it into the hands of people eager to make their own top notch extracts and teas!
